As a designer, we sometimes pitch concepts and ideas that don't get chosen, but we're still proud of — below are a few of these projects.
This was a logo exploration for ViaSat's fourth Satellite, internally referred to as VS-2.
The satellite will be launched in June, 2017 and was the world's highest capacity satellite at the time. As part of the launch celebration, the company wanted to created some swag for its employees and asked the Creative Team to submit ideas for a VS-2 logo. Though none of my designs were chosen, it was a fun exercise in logo design.
The Viasat creative department decided to create a logo for it's internal creative agency. Everyone in the department was asked to join in, and this was one of my submissions.
The Global Business group at Viasat attends the Channel Partners Expo each year to network and recruit dealers and retailers from across the country. While satellite technology has been around for a long time, it's just recently become a competitive technology for businesses.
To stand out from the competition, I went with a teal and green color palette. Using our illustration style I circled back to some proposal work I had done earlier in the year (below) to portray travel-sticker-type scenes and used these to show just how "limitless" our coverage really is (96% of America). The connective lines help emphasize that connectivity that is so essential, especially for those outside the cable areas.

Viasat works with independent retailers all across the US to provide internet to those who need it most. Each quarter, the content team creates the Viasat Vision, a magazine to help them stay up-to-date on the latest technologies, products and campaigns. The 2019 Summer issue featured the summer seminars - an annual traveling seminar designed to showcase all of the new services, products and programs created just for our Retailers.
Incorporating Viasat's linear illustration style, I wanted to explore the idea of modernizing the retro travel sticker and combining that with the Americana of a classic road trip. I later repurposed these "stickers" for my Channel Partners proposal (above).
