Award-Winning Magazine Design

While working at Professional Assist Corporation I was privileged to work on three magazines: ASCP Skin Deep, AHP Indie Stylist, and Massage & Bodywork magazine. I am happy to say that all three magazines were honored with awards for design.
Barbering is indisputably considered an art form that requires skill, training, creativity, and a sharp eye. Associated Hair Professionals recognizes this craftsmanship by lifting up professionals in the industry with the Hair Pro of the Year awards (formerly AHP Indie Barber of the Year). In 2023 Dave Peters, AKA: Pittsburgh Dave, got to share his story with the industry in AHP Indie Stylist magazine. I had the pleasure of working with Dave and the rest of the team to art direct the photo shoot, and design the magazine

The beauty industry has been growing at an intense pace—around 64% over the last ten years, and shows no signs of slowing. "...along with the increased demand for beauty products and services comes a lot of packaging—over 120 billion units annually, according to Terracycle—and most of this packaging is not recycled (or recyclable, for that matter)."—ASCP Skin Deep, Sustainable Beauty, Autumn 2022

This issue explored things estheticians should consider to become more sustainable within their practice. This article really inspired me to coax out the textures of our daily lives and to make these ideals tangible. I think trying to balance the ugliness of waste with the feminine beauty of the brand really pushed the design into a unique and creative place.
